The coastal city of Zadar doesn’t get much press–but maybe that’s a good thing. Located in northern Dalmatia off the beaten tourist path, Zadar boasts Roman ruins, cobbled streets, and sparkling sea views without the crowds. Three hours from Zagreb, it’s also a convenient base for island hopping and exploring nearby national parks. No trip to Zadar would be complete without a visit to the Sea Organ, where gently rolling waves play lulling melodies.
